Rugby Coaching in St Lucia

Rugby in St Lucia

Rugby has been historically a niche sport in the Caribbean. When we first began our work in St Lucia in 2011 the game was on the decrease, with participation at an all-time low and with no youth structure in place. Rugby has been at the forefront of our developmental work on the island and we are very proud of how far the game has come in that time. From its decline in 2011 rugby is now being played all over the island by children in schools and local communities, as well as developing league for senior teams. By volunteering as a rugby coach on your gap year you can be involved in a very exciting developmental stage of the game.

Your Placement

We welcome rugby volunteers who enjoy playing or coaching rugby, be it socially with friends, representing your school, club or university team, or even as far as holding rugby coaching qualifications. We base our tours and placements around your experience and what you wish to gain from your time with us, whether this be working to develop the national side with more elite training or working on our community and schools projects where the emphasis is more on fun and participation. Whatever your background, be assured that you will be able to offer something positive to the children and rugby coaching projects you work on.

As a volunteer rugby coach you will be expected to help organise and run training sessions and rugby matches. This will be a great experience for building friendships and developing your own confidence in sports coaching. You will also be able to swap coaching ideas with the other volunteers and the St Lucian coaching staff and players.
