Tennis in St Lucia
The St Lucian Tennis Association was formed in 1970. It was located at the La Toc hotel during the 70s and 80s, and swiftly became the centre of Eastern Caribbean tennis, and was the venue of the first Coca Cola event which as an international event placed St. Lucia on the tennis atlas.
Until 2011 the sport was quite an exclusive sport but with the aid of the Taiwanese Government a new facility was opened to the public allowing all can come and enjoy and play the sport of Tennis.
Your tennis coaching experience
Our tennis placement looks to give our volunteers a varied selection of coaching opportunities, working with a large number of children and young adults in a range of projects, schools and community groups. We work throughout the capital of St Lucia, Castries, as well as supporting a number of grassroots projects in the south of the island.
In our youth and community projects our aim is to introduce the children to the sport and encouraged an increased participation across the island. Therefore our coaching session look not only to develop basic skills but also to increase the enthusiasm, participation and enjoyment of the game. Here the emphasis is on fun!
Your placement will see you based somedays at the national tennis centre working with their youth development projects, and maybe even honing your own skills with a friendly knock around. Here you will be working with some of the islands top coaches to help prepare players for upcoming tournaments or developing certain skills and abilities. This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and favorite drills, maybe demonstrating a new way to teach a shot or a game to increase net play.
You will coach five days a week, with a minimum of one sessions a day, though often it will be more. Your coaching placement will be tailored you and your ability and confidence.
