Program Description

Our programs are designed for interns or students who are looking for vocational experience with the charity sector or sport industry. We can offer a range of roles and projects, all with on island suppot and assistance. You will work to assist our work to combat social issues such as unemployment, gang culture and childhood obesity in some of the regions poorest communities, assisting the expansion of our organisation and generating revenue and publicity for the projects.

International Rugby Tournament

Host an Invitational Rugby 7’s tournament designed to: expose the islands players to a higher standard of competition, get visiting teams involved in Caribbean Coaching projects, create donation and fundraising links with european rugby clubs, accumulate funds for Caribbean Coaching programme, generate a buzz on the island for the sport and its National team.

Roles may include: Liaising with Caribbean rugby unions and inviting clubs worldwide to participate. Marketing to clubs inc. social media, radio and television promotion. Creating commercial revenue: pitching to sponsors for support, negotiating deals with; tour operators, drivers and accommodation providers, decide on tournament vending strategy. Planning and coordinating visiting team programmes. Formatting tournament. Designation of Caribbean Coaching staff and volunteer roles.

8-12 Week placement: Tournament must be held on a weekend in either July or August, volunteers must arrive minimum 8 weeks prior to tournament date.

Project Coordination

Review and implement improvement on current projects and their aims. Creating new projects where there is a recognised need. This internship aims to review and enhance the impact of current Caribbean Coaching sports projects.

Roles may include: Observing and analysing current projects and their aims. Exploring and trialling methods of similar organisations. Establishing new projects for new communities and specific populations. Impact reports, liaising with parents, teachers, communities, government and partner organisations.

Continuous placement (minimum 4 weeks)

Film & Photography

St. Lucia’s beautiful volcanic landscape, tropical rainforests and Atlantic & Caribbean coast is the perfect muse for film and photography. As an organisation we require a vast amount of footage to document work done and volunteering experience for fundraising and recruitment purposes. There is also opportunities to work within our project i.e Photography or film lessons within schools and higher educational facilities and assist UTS and local coaches by creating footage for performance analysis.

Role may include: Capturing images Filming footage from sessions within projects, creating media for commercial use ie. Accommodation, voluntary experience or fundraising. Creating impact documentary videos. Match/tournament coverage.  Creating videos for coaching analysis. Video/ photography lessons in schools.

Continuous placement (minimum 2 weeks)

Domestic Rugby League

The St. Lucia Rugby Union’s domestic male and female leagues were only established in 2016 and hence are relatively new, with plenty of room for development. The aim of this placement is to aid the growth of the league to improve the standard of domestic competition and create more playing opportunities for young players within our projects.

Roles may include: Managing the ongoing National league fixtures, Communicating with competing teams. selecting and obtaining match locations. Publicising events to gain spectators and local/commercial interest. Assisting the formation of new teams. Fixture/schedule management. Inviting dignitaries. Organising transport.

Continuous placement (minimum 4 weeks)

Social Media

Manage our local charity's multiple social media platforms to engage our work with the public and raise the profile organisation locally and globally.

Roles may include: updating social media platforms, including Facebook, twitter and Instagram, writing news articles and newsletters, managing important contacts database, communicating with past volunteers to get testimonials, collecting high quality images, collecting interesting stories and articles to be used.

Continuous placement (minimum 4 weeks)

Coach Coordinator

Manage teams of volunteer coaches to ensure most effective use of Caribbean Coaching teams.

Role may include: Session planning, preparing weekly coaching timetables and assisting in management of coaching teams for different sports, delivering in & afterschool sessions for children aged 4-16, learning and being involved in a variety of different sports, liaise with parent, carers, teachers and communities.

Continuous placement (minimum 4 weeks)

Summer Camp

Caribbean Coaching host an annual free summer camp during the school summer holiday periods for children in disadvantaged communities providing pastoral care and sport coaching.

Role may include: Identifying transport and food subsidies for individuals. Planning weekly timetable. Communicating with schools and parents, increasing participating numbers through schools and advertising. Planning and executing trips, identifying and inviting guest speakers/performers, arranging tournaments and fixtures  Links with other summer camps and organisations.
