St Lucia

Rugby in St Lucia

Rugby isn't a sport often associated with the Caribbean, but over the last few years it has seen a huge expansion at both adult and junior level. Our projects first started by aiding the development of rugby when we set up the first community and school teams in St Lucia. At that time there was no grassroots program for children, but since then we have seen teams and schools established all over the island.

St Lucia now has a small but competative rugby league, with four teams representing four local communities.

By volunteering as a rugby coach you can be involved in the continued development of the sport in a very exciting time for the game. With more players joining each year and St Lucia now hosting a number of rugby tournaments each year you will have the chance to both coach and play.

Your Placement

We welcome rugby volunteers who enjoy playing or coaching rugby, be it socially with friends, representing your school, club or university team, or even as far as holding rugby coaching qualifications. We base our tours and placements around your experience and what you wish to gain from your time with us, whether this be working to develop the national side with more elite training or working on our community and schools projects where the emphasis is more on fun and participation. Whatever your background, be assured that you will be able to offer something positive to the children and rugby coaching projects you work on.

As a volunteer rugby coach you will be expected to help organise and run training sessions and rugby matches. This will be a great experience for building friendships and developing your own confidence in sports coaching. You will also be able to swap coaching ideas with the other volunteers and the St Lucian coaching staff and players.
